6 Dark Tricks Of Satan That Will Destroy You, Unless...

In this post, we throw the spotlight on six of Satan's darkest tricks to destroy you and reveal how you can be victorious.

Trick 1
Satan distracts you with the cares of this life.

The Bible warns us of this satanic trick:

Mark 4:19

and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

We live in a day and age of information and activity overload.

There is always something in someone competing for our attention, sometimes these activities can be good and wholesome, but if we are not careful, we can lose our focus on what really matters.

Before we know it, we can find ourselves spiritually bankrupt and separated from God and eternal life.

So how do we avoid this devilish trick?

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

We must prioritize spending time with God and seeking His will, if we do this, He will take care of all our other needs.

This is the way that Jesus, our example, made sure that He spent quality time with His Father:

Mark 1:35

Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

He made sure that He took time out of His schedule to seek the Father in prayer.

Notice that He did this in private and in the morning, which is an excellent strategy to make sure we are consistent with our devotional life.

Here is a verse about valuing God over the things of this world:

1 John 2:15-17

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Friends, let us make a deliberate effort to spend time with God each day in prayer and Bible study and put Him first in every area of our life.

Trick 2
Satan tempts you in your weak areas.

The devil and his demons have been studying the human race for 6,000 years and they know you better than you know yourself.

We are only as strong as our weakest link, so we must put our trust in God to give us victory in every area of our lives.

Is this possible?

The Bible tells us:

2 Peter 2:9

…the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations…

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Total victory over sin is possible, but only by the power of Christ working within you and we have to claim that power by faith.

Every temptation resisted is a precious victory over the forces of evil.

Yes, if we sin, we can confess and forsake our sin and receive forgiveness, but each sin causes us to lose ground in this spiritual war and could lead us to be eternally lost; to overcome this trick, let us follow God's directive:

James 4:7

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Trick 3
Satan slowly erodes your brain with worldly media.

If you think the devil won't use music, movies and social media to destroy you, then you are deceived.

The devil knows these things can capture the attention and emotions and he uses them to his advantage.

I've heard it so many times before, people say “I can watch these movies, it doesn't affect me”.

Or “I can play these games and listen to this music and I'm just fine”.

Friends, the devil rejoices when he hears such overconfident boasts.

He has you just where he wants you.

Everything we allow into our mind has an impact, whether we realize it or not, it will either bring us closer to God or further away from Him.

The Bible tells us:

Romans 12:2

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

We must guard the avenues of our soul which are the five senses as vigilant soldiers.

Before we allow anything into our mind, it should pass this Bible test:

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Let us guard our mind and keep it pure for God.

Trick 4
Satan makes you rely on your pastor instead of your Bible.

We live in a day when there seems to be a different Christian church on every corner, but many of the teachings of these churches directly conflict with each other.

So how can we know the truth?
What should we trust more, the Bible or the pastor?

The Bible says:

Acts 5:29

…We ought to obey God rather than men.

Don't get me wrong, pastors can be great men of God who lead us closer to Him, but we must test everything by the Bible for ourselves and obey what we learn, even if it's different from what a pastor teaches.

After hearing a new teaching or doctrine, many people will ask, “what church are you with?”, as if to say they will decide if they agree based on who gave the teaching, but friends, this is a deadly mistake that pleases Satan.

Many rejected Jesus for this very reason, they trusted in the Jewish leaders of that day instead of the Bible.

The real question that we should ask when we hear a teaching that is new to us is this, and don't miss this, it's just three words.

Is it true?

That's it, friends. Is it true?

And to decide if it's true, we must humbly and honestly compare it to the Bible.

This is what the Bereans did, and they were commended for it.

Acts 17:11

These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Some people will reject teachings not because they are different, but because they are unpopular.

How could this be true if the majority don't believe it, they say?

But friends, the truth is rarely popular.

It was the majority who rejected Noah's message and were swept away by the flood.

It was the majority who bowed their knees to worship an idol in Daniel chapter 3.

It was the majority who rejected Jesus Christ.

The Bible tells us:

Matthew 7:13

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.

It is not safe to follow the crowd, but we must study the Bible for ourselves:

2 Timothy 2:15

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Trick 5
Satan darkens your mind with depression.

One of the greatest tricks that Satan uses to destroy God's people is depression.

He wants us to focus on the size of our problems, and forget the size of our God.

Please don't fall for it, friends.

As Christians, we must learn to live our lives on faith and not on feelings:

2 Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

And even if we feel gloomy and down, we should not allow that to stop us from being active or from trusting in God.

It was once said that our faith should be the engine that drives us.

On a train, it is the engine that powers and propels the train, our feeling should be like the caboose on the train, not the engine.

The caboose of a train is comfortable and nice to have, but it is not necessary to drive the train forward.

In the same way, we can't let our emotions decide how we live our lives.

We must live by faith.

We must also learn to believe and claim the promises of God's word.

Here is an example that addresses depression:

Psalms 9:9

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed,
A refuge in times of trouble.

Trick 6
Satan turns family and loved ones against you.

The devil knows who has our greatest love and emotions, and he will try to use this against you.

Sometimes the greatest heartaches, the greatest pain, comes not from our enemies, but from our closest friends and family.

We should absolutely love and cherish our family, but we must always love God more than anything or anyone.

Our greatest loyalty must be with Him.

Matthew 10:37

He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

This may mean choosing to obey a Bible teaching or attending a church that our family disapproves of.

Our obedience to God must come first.

Deuteronomy 6:5

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

This love for Jesus can only come by experience, by spending time with Him in prayer and Bible study, by living for Him and gaining precious victories over sin and by His power and by remembering Him and the things He has done for you.

This is the love that gave the martyrs the strength to stand for their faith, even while being burned at the stake or fed to ravenous lions.

Love for Jesus is the secret to a victorious Christian life.

Friends, it is critical that we are aware of these strategies of Satan for he desires to pull you away from God and destroy your soul.

1 Peter 5:8

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Stay faithful to the end so that you receive a crown of life.
